A Social Media Case Study: Lil Wayne, the rapper

Whether you love him or hate him, Lil Wayne has managed to harness the power of social media like no other. With the help of social media he has built a strong brand presence and a platform of loyal followers.

Lil Wayne currently has over 26 million Facebook followers; that’s 5 million more than the most powerful man in the free world, President Barack Obama.  At the rate he’s going, within the next three months that number will increase to 30 million.  That’s 10% of the entire American population. Even spending the better part of 2010 on Riker’s Island, on charges of marijuana and arms possession, didn’t destroy his brand.
